Awesome news.
Just found out I am diabetic. Wish I could say it was a surprise, but lets face it, if you know me, then you know I am not exactly someone who works on being healthy.
It's not bad yet. Right now I just have blurry vision, tired all the time and am CONSTANTLY thirsty. Surprisingly taking in vast quantities of water has an unfortunate side effect. I think you can figure out what that might be. That side effect is not helping with sleep. All in all, very irritating. Good news is that the person who is currently "practicing" medicine on me thinks we can probably nip this in the bud with some oral medications, exercise and modification of the way I eat. No stabbing myself repeatedly yet (though the wife wants to, love you too honey, I know it's "for my own good" and all, but... yay). So life is sucking a bit right now. I've seen some stuff online where people are limiting themselves to 30-40 carbs per day (These are Type 1 people - Insulin users). That's a Quarter Pounder with Cheese at McDonald's. I think I am going to die.
At one point I stopped drinking water and started drinking apple juice since we had it around for the kids anyway and it was tastier. We cut it 50% with water so I didn't really think anything of it. Didn't really notice I was drinking more than normal, when I did I just assumed it was because of the warmer weather and being more active. We've done a number of trips to amusment parks with the kids. Eventually I realized that I was CONSTANTLY drinking. Once I noticed my eyesight starting to blur, I went to the doctor. Turns out it was a vicious cycle. High blood sugar makes you thirsty. The sugar in the juice was increasing my blood sugar. Higher blood sugar, more thirsty. Stupid body. The suck part is that when you can't stomache artifical sweeteners, there is almost nothing left to drink that doesn't have a ton of sugar in it. Except water. I am so sick of water. I'm not sure how we survived on this stuff for millenia. I am hoping that I can find an artificaial sweetener other than Aspertame that doesn't taste like !@#$!. Right now Sucralose is next on the testing list. I wouldn't mind milk so much, but I think I am borderline Lactose Intolerant too. If I drink a hald gallon of milk, bad things start to happen. VERY bad things.
I am looking at getting a Gym membership now. Been wanting to do that for a while anyway, but the Gym I wanted to go to was a bit of a drive. Looks like I may be changing jobs and the new job would be much closer. Easier to hit on the way home. The West Shore Y has an awesome kids pool.
Oral meds + exercise + "adjusting" my food intake may keep me alive, but there were some things that I was eatting that I really enjoyed. Not sure how happy I am going to be about the new rules, but if I can get myself in better shape by dropping say 100 lbs, the whole issue may just go away and maybe I can eat some more of the foods that I know I will miss under the new rules.
Here's to hoping.
I should probably appologize in advance for being a miserable !@#$!@#! person for at least the next couple of months.

At least you went to the doctors when you noticed things weren't right. I know plenty of people that do not. I ain't going to lie.. it's going to suck (especially in the short term). You can do this though... and I don't think you will need to give up completely those foods that you love.
